Is Your Phone Unlocked? Here’s How to Check (iOS & Android)
Planning to use a Roamvy eSIM on your trip? Great choice! But first, you’ll need to make sure your phone is unlocked — meaning it’s not tied to a specific carrier. If it’s locked, you won’t be able to activate a Roamvy eSIM (or any other non-native SIM). Don’t worry checking your device status is simple
Let’s walk you through how to find out if your phone is locked or unlocked.
Step 1: Open Settings
Tap on the Settings app from your home screen.
Step 2: Tap General
Scroll down and tap General.
Step 3: Tap About
Select About to see details about your device.
Step 4: Look for Carrier Lock
Scroll down until you see the Carrier Lock field.
✅ If it says: “No SIM restrictions” — Good news! Your iPhone is unlocked.
❌ Anything else — Your iPhone is likely locked to a carrier.
Since Android devices vary by manufacturer (Samsung, Google Pixel, Xiaomi, etc.), steps may look slightly different — but the general process is the same.
Step 1: Open Settings
Tap the Settings app from your app drawer or home screen.
Step 2: Tap Connections or Network & Internet
Depending on your phone, go to:
Connections > Mobile networks, or
Network & Internet > Mobile network
Step 3: Insert a Different SIM Card (if possible)
The most reliable test:
Power off your device.
Insert a SIM card from a different carrier.
Power it back on.
✅ If you can make calls or access data — your device is unlocked.
❌ If you see a message like “SIM not supported” or “Enter network unlock code” — it’s locked.
If your phone is locked:
Contact your carrier and request an unlock (requirements vary).
Be sure to have your IMEI number handy (you can find it in Settings > About Phone).
Once your device is unlocked, you’re ready to activate your Roamvy eSIM and stay connected globally — no physical SIMs, no roaming surprises.
